3HM - THEE HEADED MONSTER
MELISSA RECORDS
METAL TO INFINITY
A strange band name for a weird band. Three Headed Monster is an American instrumental Power Metal band without a vocalist. Sometimes it's a pity bands don't use a singer, on the other hand I've heard bands who recorded their albums with terrible vocalists, a waste of energy, talent and good written songs. 3HM stands for pure metal with a lot of arrangements, superb guitar riffs, first class solos, outstanding and intelligent drum parts and off course plenty of power. I always liked acoustic guitars in music, some passages on this album are really worth listening to and sound overwhelming. The entire record is written with a lot of sensitivity, ideal! 3HM is influenced by Iron Maiden, Metallica and a lot different styles like thrash, progressive, death... but all on the typical American way.
Don't expect another guitar virtuoso album, this is just pure heavy metal, proud as it can be! In a way a good high pitched singer would have made this a top band, on the other hand the 'original' touch would have been missed with vocals added. Very difficult to decide which way this band should go, loads of talent around here, but I suppose there are more possibilities. In my opinion these guys need to search for some (guest?) vocalists to mix their outstanding musicianship with some different styles of vocals. I remember the James Murphy solo albums were marvelous with such a concept.
Okay, this is a very good album and yes, it sounds cool, but I'm afraid it will be difficult to surprise us time after time. Very brave from Melissa Records to release this album. My score: 86/100 (review by Officer Nice)
