DESTRUCTOR - FOREVER IN LEATHER
AUBURN RECORDS
METAL TO INFINITY
Brothers and sisters, Cleveland-Ohio based Thrash Metal icons Destructor's new album is a fact and shall take the world of Metal by storm - a furious storm of steel i mean! These guys conquered my heart and soul in 1985 with the release of their debut album "Maximum Destruction", released through Auburn Records. One of the best US Thrash Metal albums that ever has appeard. Dressed in leather and chains, Destructor's style of music were sparkling, energetic, full of power...it simply mowed everything what stood in the way. Along with other US Thrash bands like Exodus, Blessed Death, Metallica, Slayer, Dark Angel, Forbidden, At War, Death Angel, Gammacide, Vio-lence,...it was a time which i'll never forget!!
They were real awesome, played Thrash Metal the way it should be but the need destiny struck when bass player Dave 'Holocaust' Iannicca lost its life after he was stabbed in the back. Hard times for the remaining, fellow band members...the pain deep down inside of losing their dear brother was hard to handle but they fought back introducing all honour to a brillant musician, an icon in the world of Thrash Metal... this brother's name was Dave 'Holocaust' Iannicca. Remaining members Dave Overkill (vocals/guitar), Pat Rabid (guitar/backing vox) and drummer Matt Flammable went in search of a worthy continuator that was able to handle the bass lines, later on they found the right one by the name Jamie Boulder. Line-up completed and Destructor was back with a vengeance. A couple of EP's came out through big chief Bill Peters and the incredible Auburn Records.
What had happened eventually have happened... somekind of a reward for a band that struggled through hard times but never gave up the fight, Destructor's second full length release since their existence is here to blow you all apart. Some REAL US Thrash Metal is coming to get you for sure. Still dressed in leather, the title of this output fits extremely well and calls "Forever In Leather". You already can feel the Metal only by looking at the front and back cover of this album. It shows leather, denim, buttons, pins, spikes and chains...it breaths Metal all over the way. Fantastic booklet incl. great pictures and lyrics, all is perfect guys!
Produced by Don Depew - executive produced by Bill Peters, "Forever In Leather" contains 11 songs just like in the almighty 80s period. The quality of the sound is old school minded which means that if you're looking for a nice and clean polished kinda production, you better get the hell outta here. Remember, this output kicks real Metal right into your face! Opener 'Tear Down The Heavens' put everything immediately in flame and fire. Magnificent up-tempo killer song that indicates the tone of what still must come. Stand strong for the following track 'Skull Splitter' which reflects the meaning of 80s US Thrash Metal in all its glory. Fast and wild, superb through and through. This one does me dreams to Destructor's early days...can't get enough of it, hell no!
You'll find more songs back this way out, it's headbanging time with tracks like: 'Unleashed', 'World Of War', 'Straight To Hell' and 'Pounding Warriors'. After following the rhythms of these songs, you probably falls down totally outta control but hey...that's all part of the Metal game! Songs not that fast but definitely worth to discribe as brilliant are: 'Damage Control', 'Precision Devastation' (excellent song!), 'Unearth The Earth', 'Forever In Leather' (musical wise, this one reminds me sometimes of Metallica's 'Creepin' Death'), 'Centuries In Ice'.
To my appraisal, "Forever In Leather" is a US Thrash Metal pearl - a must-have for all those in search for a thrill. Destructor's legendary, debut album "Maximum Destruction" still lives in my inner self and now that they're back, my blood runs even faster through my veins. To the question, 'What's the most remarkable difference between the old and the new Destructor'...i'd like to answer with full conviction: 'There is NO difference'. Regarding skills, energy or whatever...Destructor's still the same band as many years ago and has the same qualities and talents inside its ranks.
I'm sure, they will be Forever In Leather. Watch out to their performance at WOA 2008 festival in Germany! Thrash Metal maniacs, here's the place to order the album: www.auburnrecords.com . Otherwise, take a look at the band's homepage at: www.myspace.com/maximumdestructor MY POINTS: 96 / 100
