Sun Caged from Holland isn't certainly an unknown band in the world of Progressive Metal! Founded by excellent guitar shredder Marcel Coenen who formed the band late 1999. This founder is handle its guitar with with passion...by the years gone by, Marcel created a unique style of axe shredding! Through the years, active in Power / Thrash as well as in Speed or Progressive outfits... he's simply a great musician that has been cut from the appropriate wood. So, Marcel left bands such as Lemur Voice, Speedica (superb 80s band),...dedicated itself completely to Sun Caged, the band actually started as some kinda studio-project!
Surrounded by matched musicians, Sun Caged peeled a self-titled debut album through Finnish label Lion Music in October 2003. An album that feels good, but the ultimate spark wasn't there for me. From time to time, the CD were played and nothing more. More than three years later, Sun Caged is proud to present their second album entitled ''Artemisia'', once again released through Lion Music in very good ways! The only remaining member in contradistinction with their debut is Marcel Coenen, the founder of this formation you know. Why the rest left the ranks, i absolutely don't know.
True fact is that Marcel succeeded once again finding the right guys to put great songs in each other. Notable immediately was that the new Sun Caged had a great singer in its ranks. Paul Adrian Villareal is his name, takes also the acoustic guitar parts at its expense...he has a crystal clear, everything-under-control voice of a remarkably high level. Drummer Roel Van Helden (also in Delphian) give away the best he can and that's a great job i can tell. Rest of the new lineup is keyboard conjurer, Rene Kroon and Roel vink who stands strong playing bass guitar with a lot of capitualation.
Well, Sun Caged new occupation looks marvelous but what about the nowadays style? They were Progressive influenced and they have apparently not descended of those position. My point is that the band sounds more full-grown. Stucture of the songs reflect an indicate of a demonstrable progress. An abundance of variations with elements originate from the world of Progressive Rock / Metal as well as Fusion / Classic Rock. You can go a lot of different ways with a band like Sun Caged, so forget boring moments while listening to these guys' works.
Superbly production, including 10 songs (running time: 70 minutes)...fans of Superior, VandenPlas, early Dream Theatre, Dreamtide,... will enjoy these release to the extreme! If I can express myself: absolutely great skilled musicians, however indifferent because of my interest for this sort of music. Maintained to the bone, i'll express myself as moderate content, nontheless i'll give an honest recommendation to all Prog Rock / Metal fanatics which is... go in search of ''Artemisia'' and you certainly will not be disappointed all.
